Agent Andy Ross and author Mary McConahay (Maya Roads) share their different perspectives on their working relationship. Each will present their experience in meeting and becoming a team.

Andy, the former owner of Cody’s Bookstore in Berkeley, has years of experience in the book business and has successfully parlayed from bookstore owner into book agent. He will discuss his process in selecting potential clients, developing their relationship, and his style in finding the right publishing house.

Mary Jo, a longtime journalist and war correspondent, wrote the touchingMaya Roads, a 2011 National Geographic Traveller Book of the Month selection and Northern California Book Award for the best work in Creative Non-fiction, as a mission of the heart. Mary Jo will discuss her experience in looking for and finding Andy as her agent, and working with him. They will cover their ups and downs as they moved through the publishing process.

Mary Jo McConahay has been a journalist and war correspondent for much of her life. She has recently published the book, Maya Roads: One Woman’s Journey Among the People of the Rainforest. MayaRoadsMaya Roads was selected as the August 2011 National Geographic book of the month. She worked with Andy Ross as her agent.
